Kevin Weaver is an American music industry executive and Grammy award winning music producer.[1] He is currently the President of Atlantic Records, Film & Television and the Executive Vice President of The Atlantic Records Group. Weaver oversees the incorporation of Atlantic Records’ music within film, television, and video games, as well as providing oversight on the creation, A&R, marketing, promotion and distribution of soundtracks. Weaver has also operated a successful co-venture between his present company and Warner/Chappell Music to publish music.
Weaver joined Atlantic Records in 1994, helping direct soundtrack projects from 1995 to 1998 under the Lava label. He continued working in the same area as an executive at Tommy Boy Music from 1998 to 2000, whereupon he transferred back to Lava. He was promoted to Senior Vice President of Atlantic Records in 2006. Two years later in 2008, Weaver was named Executive Vice President of Atlantic Records Group, and in 2014 was also named President of Film and Television.
A 20-year veteran of the music industry, Weaver is no stranger to success. Most recently, he produced Suicide Squad: The Album, the soundtrack companion to Warner Bros.’ highly anticipated summer 2016 blockbuster, Suicide Squad.[2] The album boasts the highest debut for a soundtrack in 2016 and the largest streaming week for a soundtrack in history with over 32 million streams. Alongside debuting at No. 1 atop the Soundscan/Billboard 200,[3] the album hit No. 1 on the iTunes Top Overall Albums chart in 66 countries around the world, including the United States.[4] The album includes the chart topping single “Heathens,” from Twenty-One Pilots,[5] as well as hit singles from artists such as Skrillex, Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, Imagine Dragons, Lil Wayne and many more.[6]
Weaver also produced the Furious 7: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Album, which peaked at #1 on the US Billboard 200 Chart and also hit #1 on iTunes in over 65 territories. The Furious 7 soundtrack includes the single “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa (Feat. Charlie Puth), which Weaver provided A&R services for.[7] The single has garnered over 4.5 Billion streams and has sold over 5 million singles worldwide.[5][6]
Some of his other projects include the soundtrack for Boardwalk Empire, Vol. 1 (Music From the HBO Original Series), which he produced and won a Grammy Award in 2010 for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media,[8] along with the soundtrack for THE FAULT IN OUR STARS[9] which featured the RIAA Certified multi-platinum single, “Boom Clap,” from Charli XCX.[10]
Weaver also produced the Girls: Volume 1 and True Blood Volumes 1 & 2 soundtracks, which subsequently earned him two more Grammy Award nominations. Further executive producer, and/or A&R Executive soundtrack credits, and A&R contributions include: Avatar (Music from the Motion Picture), Paper Towns, The Hangover 1 & 2, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Rio 2, Michael Bay’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Step Up 2 & 3, Happy Feet and many more.
He was also an executive producer for Ed Sheeran's one-hour NBC television special in 2015, "Ed Sheeran - Live at Wembley Stadium,” and spearheaded the deal for Coldplay’s 2014 NBC concert special "Ghost Stories".[11] In 2013, he produced Ceelo Green’s “Magic Moment” Broadcast Christmas Special at Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino, and was an A&R Executive on the Magic Moment Album.[12]
Alongside his lengthy career in A&R, soundtracks and licensing, Weaver has been intimately involved in the development of the careers of artists such as Kid Rock, Bruno Mars, Fun, Icona Pop, Charlie XCX, Ed Sheeran, Matchbox20, Flo Rida, T.I., Jason Mraz, Christina Perri, James Blunt, Cee Lo Green, The Zac Brown Band, Jewel and numerous others.
