King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard is an Australian psychedelic rock band from Melbourne, formed in 2010.[1][2] The band consists of Stu Mackenzie (vocals, guitar, flute), Ambrose Kenny Smith (synths, harmonica), Cook Craig (guitar), Joey Walker (guitar), Lucas Skinner (bass), Eric Moore (drums), and Michael Cavanagh (drums).
The band are noted for their energetic live performances and their prolific recording output, having released eight full-length albums since 2012. King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard's early work saw them primarily perform in a style that blended 1960s surf music, garage rock and psychedelic rock, but more recently have experimented with a broader range of influences, including elements of film music, folk, jazz, soul, Krautrock and heavy metal.
History
Nonagon Infinity (2016)
Their eighth full-length album, Nonagon Infinity, was released worldwide on 29 April 2016.[3] Described by frontman Stu Mackenzie as a 'never-ending album', it features nine songs connected by musical motifs which flow 'seamlessly' into each other with the last track 'linking straight back into the top of the opener like a sonic mobius strip'.[4] On 8 March the band released a video for the first single, "Gamma Knife".[5] It contained a riff from the song "People Vultures" which was premiered on April 4.[6] The album was released internationally on April 29th, 2016.
Flying Mircotonal Banana (2017-present)
On October 8, 2016 the band revealed that they were recording their 10th album in their studio.[7]
On November 10, 2016 the band announced the title of their 9th album, Flying Microtonal Banana, which is to be released on February 24, 2017. The band plan to release a total of five studio albums in 2017.[8]
