Kothapally is one of the Villages in Gambhiraopet mandal which is in Karimnagar District in Telangana State in India. Rajpet, Gambhiraopet, Lingannapet, Kollamaddi, Srigada, Shilajinagar and Mucharla are the surrounding villages to this village.

History

The history of Kothapally dates back to centuries. Two large Citadels (Burujulu) still standing tall in the center of the Village. Once Kothapally was known as "Nutanapuri" now rechristened as "Kothapally" in pure Telugu.

Education

Kothapally has an average literacy rate of 62%. From a decade there has been a good response for education. Literacy rate has been improved a lot. Girl education is highly encouraged in the village. There are 4 Mandal parishad primary schools, 1 Zilla Parishad High School, 4 Anganwadi centres and 2 English medium schools (Saraswathi school and SVS school) in the village. People prefer colleges in Hyderabad, kamareddy and Karimnagar for higher studies. Hundreds of students go to colleges in Kamareddy as day scholars. Students completed Intermediate are around 850, Graduation are 350 and Post graduation are 200. Many students are joining in BTech/B.E courses. Recently professional degrees are becoming popular in the village and people are attracted to them.

Culture

Telugu (with Telangana dialect) is widely spoken by majority in the village. Urdu and Lambadi language are also widely used in the village. Traditional dresses like Sari, Dhoti and modern dressing are worn. Venugopala swamy rathyatra festival is celebrated grandly during May or June month of every year. Ellamma Siddogam,Pedhamma bomalu, a Carnival is celebrated by the villagers of kothapally once in every five years. Bathukamma and Bonalu mahankali jathara,vinayaka chavithi, dhurgapuja,ramadan,moharam,Bakridh,cristamas festivals are celebrated in the village. Sakinalu a famous snacks of Telangana are prepared during Sankranthi festival. Along with these well known Hindu, Islam and Christian festivals were celebrated. People from different communities and castes are living with integrity.


Economic activities

Agriculture is the major source of income. Many people are working in semi skilled sectors in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Middle East Countries. Few people have business establishments in Maharashtra and other States of India. There is a good share of government jobs from the Village. Many people are working in IT industry in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai. Nearly 3750 people have registered in Upadi Hami Pathakam under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. Two subsidy shops of Public Distribution System are operating in the Village. Mini dairy is operating in the Village from which 450 Litres of Milk is produced everyday. Recently weekly Market has been started. On every Sunday, Market is open in the premises of Venugopala Swamy Temple to Subhash Chowrasta of the Village. People from neighboring Villages also do visit the Market.

Agriculture

Most of the people living in the Village are Farmers. Rice is the major crop cultivated in the Village. Vegetables, Sugarcane and Maize are also grown. The water resources for cultivation are Water wells, Tube wells and Ponds. Upper Manair Dam of Narmala irrigates 440 Acres of land of the Village. Income generated through agriculture by whole village is around 10 million Indian rupees per annum. There are 3 Rice Mills in the Village.

Transportation

The Village is located 9 km from Gambhiraopet. The nearest Towns to the Village are Kamareddy by 33 km, Sircilla by 38 km, Hyderabad by 125 km and Karimnagar by 80 km. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is the nearest airport located in Hyderabad. Kamareddy Railway Station is the nearest Railway Station to the Village. For every Hour, APSRTC Bus from Secunderabad to Kamareddy and vice versa passes through the Village.
