She was influenced by Etta James, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald.[4] Mae began singing at home inspired by her mother, who spotted her talent at an early age. Mae joined a church choir; that gave her the confidence to audition for a performing arts high school, where she was accepted. She majored in vocal music. Mae began performing at local talent shows, auditioning for various gigs and working with different groups. She was originally with a band called The Pains.[5]
2010s
In 2016, Mae collaborated with singer-songwriter and rapper Dreezy for Mae's R&B song "LOL".[6]
