Leylan (Persian: ليلان; also Romanized as Leylān, Lailān, and Laylān)[1] is a city in and the capital of Leylan District, in Malekan County, East Azerbaijan Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 6,079, in 1,468 families.[2]
The ancient Iranian town of Ganzak is identified as being near Leylan in the Miandoab plain.[3][4] Ganzak was built by the Achaemenids, and was the seat of the satrap of Media.
