Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre is a private hospital located at Bandra in Mumbai, India, established by the Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust in 1978.[1] It is presently run under the team of trustees, some of which include Prabodh Kirtilal Mehta, Chetan Prabodh Mehta, Rashmi Kirtilal Mehta, Rekha Haresh Sheth, Sushila Vijay Mehta, Charu Kishor Mehta, Niket Vijay Mehta, Bhavin Rashmi Mehta, Nanik Rupani, S. Lakshminarayanan, IAS and K.K Modi;[2] the Lilavati Hospital has been rewarded with several esteemed awards and accreditations.[3]

From its date of establishment until now, the Lilavati Hospital has gained a lot of respect, favorability, and popularity. Credential trustee named Prabodh Mehta and Chetan Prabodh Mehta along with Rashmi Mehta have taken several initiatives to accompany the hospital with latest medical machines and medication equipments in order to offer best treatment under varied cells of nuclear medicine and cardiac imaging, general surgery, diagnostic services, neurosciences, pediatrics, mental health and behavioral sciences, neurophthalmology, interventional cardiology, gynecology and obstetrics, rehabilitative services, scans, nephrology, orthopedics, pediatrics ophthalmology, pulmonology, maternity services, cardiac pacing and electrophysiology etc.[4]

Motto

With the motto of "More Than Healthcare, Human Care",[5] today the trustee of Lilavati Hospital; Prabodh Mehta has developed a segment of a specialty hospital of India where one will find treatment, research, and education of international standard where not only patients but students can also get a medical education with the latest technological equipment and facilities.

History

Shri Kirtilal Manilal Mehta founded the Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust in 1978 in memory of his late wife Smith. Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta. Till now, the trust has been managed, controlled, and administered by the family members: Prabodh Kirtilal Mehta, Rashmi Mehta, and Chetan prabodh mehta who engaged in innumerable charitable endeavors in different segments of the India. Fondly known as Bapaji, the late Shri Kirtilal Mehta, Founder of Lilavati Hospital and Research Center Mumbai, pioneered the entry of the Indian community into Antwerp seeing the potential in the export of diamonds where in 1956 he launched Gembel NV, a company which was a pioneer in the rough and polished diamond industry.

Shri Kirtilal Manilal Mehta

On 7 February 1907, Shri Kirtilal Manilal Mehta was born in the city of Palanpur, India. After losing his father at the early age of 12 he joined his family business in Rangoon, Burma. Besides handling his family business, he had launched another business segment of Diamond in Mumbai, the same financial capital of India from where he started Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust. It was his wife Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta's dream to open a cell of medication that offers best medical treatment at affordable prices. She believed in equality education and treatment despite of caste, creed, and income group. She died in 1964 where after she left her esteemed presence in the lives of the people who know her who always taught a way of living while serving the public good. Lilavati Hospital came into existence in the year of 1997 with 314 beds, 12 operation theaters, 300 consultants, Intensive Care Units (ICUs), 1,800 manpower handling 300 in-patients and 1,500 out-patients daily.[6]

Accreditation


NABH, or the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare, has recently provided accreditation to Lilavati Hospital for its top class of medication while using latest machines like fastest CT scanner and medical equipments for curing major diseases under authentic medical system.[7] NABH is one of the highly esteem medical accredited authority which is equivalent to JCI, HAS and the National Committee for Quality Assurance in the United States. After considering the level of operating different patients, the standard of control and prevention, quick service of intensive care unit are some of the key features that have matched with standards and criteria of NABH accreditation.[8]

On receiving accreditation the trustee Prabodh Kirtilal Mehta along with Chetan Prabodh Mehta said; "It will be the great honor for the whole team of the Lilavati Hospital that makes us more strict and exact towards the standard of offering medication and treatment across the nation".[9]
