Lindsey Abudei (born February 6, 1987) is a Nigerian neo-soul singer and guitarist. She started recording and having jam sessions with M.I and Jesse Jagz in 2004 while she was still an undergraduate in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. In 2010, she auditioned for the third season of Project Fame West Africa, getting in as a contestant but leaving as an early evictee. Since then, she has released two solo projects; Brown: The EP and ...And the Bass Is Queen.
Early life and education
Abudei is a native of the Igbo-speaking part of Delta State, Nigeria; but was born and bred in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. She holds a degree in Law from the University of Jos but took music up as her career.[1]
Career
Abudei was born to parents who were involved in music during their early years. She grew up listening to the likes of Stevie Wonder, Roberta Flack, Sade,Prince, Nat King Cole, R.E.M. Skeeter Davis, Andy Williams, The Beach Boys and Omar Lye-Fook which further inspired her to choose the neo-soul and R&B genre of music.[2]
2004–10: Early beginnings and Project Fame West Africa
During her undergraduate years in 2004, she began recording with M.I, Jesse Jagz and Ruby Gyang who were at the time under Loopy Records. In 2010, she auditioned for the Season 3 edition of Project Fame West Africa.Inspite of leaving as an early evictee,her performances helped in increasing her fanbase.[3] On her return, she continued performing and had a short stint with a jazz band, The Jazzcats. She featured vocals in M.I's "Jehovah", off his Talk About It album, "Thank You" with DJinee off the album Greatest and Jesse Jagz's "This Jagged Life" off his Jags of all Trades album.[4]
2011–13: Brown EP
On 24 February 2013, Abudei independently released Brown, an 8-track EP which included three bonus tracks. Produced by Atta Lenell, Jesse Jagz and IBK, the EP contains acclaimed singles like "Drift Away","The 90s Song" and "Out The Magazine"; with cover versions of Aṣa's "Jailer" and Fela's "Trouble Sleep, Yanga go Wake Am".[4][5]
2014–present: ...And The Bass Is Queen.
In 2014, Abudei started recording her debut studio album, ...And the Bass Is Queen.. In 2015, she shot the video for "Out The Magazine", which was directed by Kemi Adetiba.[6] On 25 June 2016, she took to social media website Twitter to unveil the artwork of the 12-tracks album which was later released through Stealth Entertainment on 30 June 2016 to positive critical reviews.[7][8]

Lindsey Abudei expresses herself in the Neo-Soul genre of music. She cites Stevie Wonder, Norah Jones, Sade, Eva Cassidy, Roberta Flack as some of her musical influences.[9]
