Lorne Craner is president of the International Republican Institute (IRI), a Washington, D.C.-based United States non-profit organization involved in the support of democracy in countries around the world.
Life
He graduated from Reed College, and from Georgetown University. He was on the staff of Congressman Jim Kolbe. From 1986 to 1989, he was on the staff of Senator John McCain. From 1995 to 2001, he served as IRI's president. From 2001 to 2004, Craner served as Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor at the United States Department of State. Craner assumed leadership of IRI on August 2, 2004.[1]
From 2007 to 2010, he was a director of the Millennium Challenge Corporation.[2]
