Magandang Buhay (Lit. Good Life) is a Philippine morning television talk show broadcast by ABS-CBN, hosted by Karla Estrada, Melai Cantiveros-Francisco and Jolina Magdangal-Escueta. The talk show premiered on April 18, 2016,[1] and currently airs every weekday mornings from 8:00am-9:30am. It is also aired worldwide via The Filipino Channel.
The title of the show is inspired from the popular line of the same name from the telenovela, Dream Dad.
History
From April 18, 2016 to June 17, 2016, Magandang Buhay debuted with its initial timeslot from 7:30am to 9:00am, and serves as the replacement of Kris TV. Estrada, Cantiveros and Magdangal were previously regular guest co-hosts for the now-defunct talk show which was hosted by Kris Aquino, as well as formerly contestants in the first season of Your Face Sounds Familiar.
On June 21, 2016, Magandang Buhay permanently moved to a new timeslot from 8:00am to 9:30am, replacing the eighth season of Naruto Shippuden. The management decided to postpone the third season of Kuroko's Basketball[2] because of the 30-minute airing extension of another morning program, Umagang Kay Ganda. The talk show's slogan is "8:00am is Magandang Buhay time."[3]
Team Animazing block removed
On June 3, 2016, ABS-CBN aired a teaser for the season 3 of Kuroko's Basketball[4] which was originally supposed to premiere on June 20, 2016 at 9am.[5] However, Magandang Buhay announced on June 17, 2016 in their social media accounts that they will move to a new timeslot at 8am starting next week. The 9am timeslot, which was previously occupied by the season 8 of Naruto Shippuden, has been given to Umagang Kay Ganda and expanded into 3 hours. ABS-CBN was forced to indefinitely postpone Kuroko's Basketball: Season 3 for many reasons, much to the anime fans' disappointment.[2]
In the first few months of Magandang Buhay on its new timeslot, the talk show was affected by ABS-CBN Regional TV stations in some provinces, much to the disappointment of provincial viewers due to the episode being delayed and aired on the following day. ABS-CBN Regional channels would abruptly cut this show and the Kapamilya Blockbusters filler movie block to air a morning programming for a Kapamilya Gold program preempted by the localized TV Patrol Regional afternoon edition, which would last for 30 minutes.[6]
Main hosts
In popular culture
The show gave rise to the term Momshie which was introduced as a term of endearment of the three hosts. It later became a popular nickname used as a term of endearment, and other people uses its variation "Momshie" for girls and "Popshie" for boys.
