Manly Hospital provides medical services to the Northern Beaches area of Sydney, Australia. The Northern Sydney Local Health District is responsible for the management of Manly Hospital.
History
As a result of enthusiastic fundraising by William Horner Fletcher[1] and a government subsidy, the Manly Cottage Hospital (known after 1929 as the Manly District Hospital) was established in 1896 on the corner of Raglan Street and Quinton Road.[2]
Future of Manly Hospital
The future of Manly and Mona Vale Hospitals had been the subject of considerable public debate.
On 30 March 2006, the NSW Minister for Health announced that a new hospital would be built in Frenchs Forest and that Manly and Mona Vale Hospitals would be downgraded.
Maternity services at Manly Hospital are set to be seriously degraded by the NSW government announcement that the unit will be split across two sites on Sydney's northern beaches.[3]
