Martin Vargic[1] is a Slovak artist, writer and entrepreneur, best known for his book "Vargic's Miscellany of Curious Maps",[2] and his maps notably "Map of the Internet", that went viral in late January 2014.[3]

Vargic publishes all of his works (chiefly maps and charts) on his website, halcyonmaps.com.[4]

On 15 January 2014, Vargic published the "Map of the Internet" on Deviantart.[5] It is a conceptual artwork that depicts the largest websites and software companies as sovereign nations on a stylized political map of the world, scaled according to their traffic and Alexa ratings. It became an international media hit on 30 January 2014, after a design and technology blog Gizmodo wrote an article on the subject.[6]

Following week, the map was featured on a wide variety of news sites and blogs in over 20 countries, most notably on The Independent,[7] Fox News,[8] The Huffington Post[9] and Business Insider.[10]

In addition to the "Map of the Internet", Vargic has recently published a wide variety of other maps, most notable being "The World - Climate Change",[11] depicting the world after 260-ft sea level rise, an attempt to increase awareness over the issue of Global Warming.[12] He also created a "Map of Stereotypes"[13] and a number of other maps and charts.

In September 2014, Vargic published his first book, named Vargic's Miscellany of Curious Maps.
