Michael Garteig (born November 5, 1991) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who is currently playing for the Alaska Aces of the ECHL while under contract with the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Playing career

Garteig played for the Powell River Kings and the Penticton Vees in the British Columbia Hockey League for four seasons. He won the BCHL Top Goaltender Awards in 2011 and 2012, and was a member of the 2012 Royal Bank Cup-winning Penticton Vees team.

Garteig had recently finished his last season with the Quinnipiac Bobcats, leading the Bobcats to the ECAC and the NCAA championship. He finished with a 32-4-7 record, a .924 save percentage and 1.91 goals against average. In total, he finished his four seasons with Quinnipiac with a record of 78-25-16, a 1.98 goals against average, and a .917 save percentage.

After his fourth year at Quinnipiac University, Garteig signed a one-year entry level contract with the Vancouver Canucks.[1][2][3] He is scheduled to play for the Canucks affiliate, the Utica Comets during the 2016–17 season[4] and participated as a Canucks prospect at the Vancouver Canucks 2016 Development camp.[5]

After completing his first training camp with the Canucks, Garteig was re-assigned to the Utica Comets on September 29, 2016.[6] On November 17, 2016, he was called up by the Canucks from the Alaska Aces of the ECHL.[7] However, on November 19, 2016, Canucks Media announced that he had been re-assigned to the Aces.[8][9]
