Michael Musclow
Michael Musclow (born March 22, 1985 in Penticton, British Columbia) is a Canadian musical artist best known for his former acoustic live performances and progressive/experimental studio work.
Career
After enrolling in theory, audio engineering, rock and jazz courses in high school, Michael began his music career in 2003 while participating in the Rotary Exchange program in Denmark. Upon returning to Canada in 2004, Michael released his first solo album titled "Rotted Nebula".[1]
The experimental nature of Musclow's recordings went largely unnoticed until the release of his 2009 album "Scars in the Buffalo's Eyes" which received BC Indie Music Award nominations in the "Concept/Collaboration" and "Instrumental" Recording of the Year categories.[2] His 2010 follow up albums "Aelita & Those Fallen" and "Ruin" were also both nominated for a BCIMA in the "Instrumental Recording of the Year" category in 2011.[1][3] His first compilation, which includes a previously unreleased track as well as remixed selections from his previous seven solo albums, was released in March 2012.[4] "Lie Within The Line", the first part of a new album trilogy, was released in September 2012 followed by a tour of the BC Interior.[1] In the November/December 2012 edition of Okanagan Life Magazine, Musclow was listed #2 for the South Okanagan in the Readers Choice Awards "Best Local Musician/Musical Group" category.[5] In December 2012 he released a full length ambient album titled "Glimpse of Our Children".[6] and on April 7, 2013 the final part of the trilogy, titled "Devastate", was released before taking a break from his music career.[7]
In April 2014 Musclow was subject to a bidding war between multiple record labels in Europe after the release of his demo "The Sonoran Buried Sky Has Bloodshed" and ultimately signed with Agatone Music, based in The Netherlands.[8] His final independent record, titled "Soon The Ghosts Will Be Covered in Dust", was released that November.[8] Michael was also nominated for a Penticton Arts Award in the category of Music in 2015.[9]
