Mighty Time is a studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Emilie Mover.[1][2] Released on April 2, 2013 by Nevado Records, it was well received by critics. NOW Toronto wrote that "the varied arrangements bring out the whimsy in her songwriting: reverby synth-pop brushes up against piano ballads, upbeat pop rock tunes, psych-soul and hints of doo-wop."[3]

Production and release

Mighty Time was recorded in home studio spaces throughout the summer of 2012,[4][5] and producers included Jay Merrow and Marco DiFelice, Ian Lefeuvre and Sean Nimmons-Paterson.[3] With Mover handling primary vocals and songwriting, two of the songs feature a duet with Ian Lefeuvre, including a cover of a Townes Van Zandt song.[3] In early 2013 Mover signed to Nevado Records to release the album,[4][6] and she released Mighty Time on April 2, 2013.[1] It was released early on March 26, 2013 for live streaming on Exclaim!.[4]

Wrote Alex Hudson of Exclaim!, "while past works have found Mover focusing on jazzy coffeehouse sounds, this record is more eclectic and pop-centric... there are also plenty of mellow tunes and sweetly smoky vibes."[4] NOW Toronto wrote that "the varied arrangements bring out the whimsy in her songwriting: reverby synth-pop brushes up against piano ballads, upbeat pop rock tunes, psych-soul and hints of doo-wop."[3]

BeatRoute Magazine wrote about Mighty Time, that "Emilie Mover’s latest record travels piecemeal through the last century of contemporary music, grabbing bits and pieces of its most popular genres and dropping them 10 at a time into songs held together by some of the most addictive chord progressions I have ever heard." The review further states that "Mover’s lyrics reek of adulthood; the whimsical pseudo-twee of Feist or She & Him is nowhere to be found, replaced with songs of amicable breakups and befuddled heartache."[7] The review also praised Mover's lyrics.[7]
