Miss United States pageant is a beauty contest held in the United States for unmarried women between the ages of 20-29. The pageant includes women selected to represent all 50 states, District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It is part of the United States National Pageants Inc system with seven divisions starting at the age of 8. The pageant had taken place in Washington, D.C. since 2012. During 2016, Miss United States organizers decided to move the system back to Las Vegas where it initially took place for a 30th anniversary celebration.
The reigning Miss United States 2016 is Alayah Benavidez of Texas, crowned on August 4, 2016 at the Palms Resort Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Former Miss United States Elizabeth Safrit represented the United States at Miss World 2014 in London, United Kingdom on December 14 where she placed as the 2nd runner-up.
