History

Inspiration Behind MIS

The decision to build Mussoorie International School in was due to Gurudev Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharyaji's inspiration. He was a prominent philosopher, visionary of the New Golden Era, and founder of All World Gayatri Pariwar, which has its headquarters at Shantikunj, Haridwar. The embodiment of simple living and compassion, a prolific writer and a powerful orator, he worked tirelessly throughout his life for the spiritual wellbeing of women and the downtrodden. He pioneered the revival of spirituality, creative integration of the modern and ancient sciences and religion relevant in the challenging circumstances of the present times.

Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharyaji was also an educationist and a visionary who stressed the need for pragmatism in education. He was moved by the plight of the Indian women, confined to the kitchen and suffering injustices silently due to ignorance and lack of education. With his blessings the year 1984 witnessed the birth of Mussoorie International School. His words "Hum Badlenge, Yug Badlega" will remain with us forever.

Boarding at MIS

Boarding is at the very heart of what makes MIS approach to Girls’ education unique. At MIS, great care is taken to ensure that the stay in the hostel is homely, making it a home away from home for students. The school has three separate hostels for Junior, Middle and Senior students. The boarding area provides each student modular furnishing and personal space. Good nurturing and caring environment at MIS is central to every individual girl’s intellectual, spiritual and emotional development. Every House is run by a Housemother and a team of female caretakers, all supported by the School Counsellor. The Housemother provides motherly care and affection and looks after the basic needs of the students. The House experience forms the backbone of a girl’s life at MIS. It is her home, her place of learning and the foundation of her group identity.

Interactive classrooms

Every classroom is technology enabled and is equipped with Smart class that provides tools and content mapped to the curriculum for interactive, self-paced learning by students, as well as rich- media presentations for teacher-led classroom learning.

Library

The school library has a stock of more than 10,000 books on a variety of subjects, and new books are added every year. The librarians assist students select authors and subjects that best suit their interest, to inculcate the habit of avid reading. The library holds regular storytelling sessions for younger students and a book week for senior students. It also has reading room facilities and provides newspapers and magazines of international repute. We subscribe to the leading newspaper, journals, magazines and periodicals from around the world that keep our students abreast with national and international events. The audio-visual section of the resource centre has a range of video and audio cassettes, CDs and DVDs on a range of subjects. The students have easy and regular access as they are used frequently in teaching.

The art gallery within the library building provides a platform to our students to showcase their artistic talents. The four sections showcase artefacts, miniatures, sculptures and paintings to help children gain an insight into artistic expressions. Also on display are the artistic pursuits of the students in different mediums.

Dining Facility

MIS serves a pure vegetarian diet for its pupils, cooked in a hygienic kitchen by our expert catering staff. The menu includes delicious dishes- North Indian, South Indian, continental and Chinese cuisines and sumptuous snacks- followed by an elaborate spread of desserts. The menu is planned in consultation with nutritionists and the school doctor. Every day, five meals are served: breakfast, juice break, lunch, teatime snack, dinner, as well as milk and cookies before bed. Discipline and decorum pervade the dining hall and students begin every meal with a prayer. Student volunteers take turns in serving meals. The school also has an in-house bakery that makes cakes and confectionaries.
