The team is owned and founded by Gerard Kelly, and Sacramento Kings co-owners Andy Miller and Mark Mastrov,[1] and NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal is also a co-owner.[2] In January 4, 2016 coach Charlie Lispie announced that he had left the organization.[3] The organization branched into Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on January 22, 2016.[4] In April 2016, NRG appointed Andrew Pruett as Chief Executive Officer. Gerard Kelly, former CEO, moved into a general management role within the organization.[5]
On March 18, 2016 the team announced that Alex Rodriguez, Shaquille O'Neal and Jimmy Rollins were joining as investors.[6]
On August 3, NRG signed the members of the former Overwatch team Luminosity Gaming.[7]
The Super Smash Bros. for Wii U player Nairoby "Nairo" Quezada joined NRG on August 23, 2016 after he left Team Liquid.[8]
On September 1, NRG acquired defending Smite World Champions team Panthera.[9]
