Nabeel Siddiq al-Ramadhani

Nabeel Siddiq al-Ramadhani (born 8 July 1954) is a British businessman and charity manager. He is a founding trustee of the Islamic NGO, Human Relief Foundation in Bradford and is currently its president and CEO. He is also trustee and director at other Islamic NGO's including Human Care International, The Europe Trust and Claremont Community Trust.

Personal history

Al-Ramadhani was born in Iraq on 8 July 1954. He graduated with a BSC and MSC in Construction Engineering from the University of Mosul in Iraq. After moving to the United Kingdom he got his PhD from the University of Bradford and worked at that university as a lecturer before becoming full-time involved with Muslim charities.[1]

Human Relief Foundation

He is one of the founding trustees of Human Relief Foundation (HRF) in 1991 and is employed as director at the organization since 1994.[2] Currently he is the president and CEO of HRF.[3]

Other charities

Al-Ramadhani is involved with other Muslim charities in the United Kingdom. He is chairman, director and trustee of Human Care International which is co-located with HRF.[4] director at The Europe Trust and director at the Claremont Community Trust Limited.[5] He was a trustee for the Muslim Charities Forum until March 2014.[6] Al-Ramadhani is also a member of the national council of the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB).[7]

Controversies

HRF banned by Israel

In 2008 the Israeli Foreign Ministry banned and blacklisted five British based charities which it said operated in Gaza and had links with Hamas. Human Relief Foundation was one of these five British based charities. Al-Ramadhani responded to accusations saying that HRF "helped Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan and did not have an office in the Palestinian territories." He also said "I never dealt with anyone in the Government in the Palestinian territories."[8] In 2015 Nabeel al-Ramadhani said to another Times reporter that HRF "has never been a member of the Union of Good" and that "Israel was "mistaken" in banning HRF. His charity was "engaged in extensive lobbying efforts" to have the decision reviewed."[9]

Claremont Community Trust

An article in the Times in August 2015 made a connection between the Claremont Community Trust and Muslim Brotherhood linked entities. The Claremont Community Trust owns real estate in Bradford. Al-Ramadhani is a founding trustee and chairman of the Trust and part owner of the real estate. In 2007 it was reported that "the trust was said to be running a 'multicultural' community centre whose aim was to 'promote positive understanding and good relationships between diverse communities'. However, a visitor to the building this year was told that the community centre was 'for Muslims' only."[9]

Another member of the board of the trust was Yasmin Hussein who is Amnesty International's director of faith and human rights. She was listed as a director of the Claremont trust from its inception in 2003 until April 2015.[9][10]
