Nairi Zarian (real name - Hayastan Yeghiazarian, Armenian: Նաիրի Զարյան, December 31, 1900, Kharakonis, near Van, Ottoman Empire - July 12, 1969, Yerevan) was an Armenian poet and writer, the chairman of the Armenian SSR Committee for the Defense of Peace.
A survivor of the Armenian Genocide, in 1915 he moved to Armenia.[1] He was a graduate of Yerevan State University. In the poem "Rock of Rushan" (1930) he showed "the socialistic resistance of an Armenian village". His novel Hatsavan (1937—47) is dedicated to the process of collectivization. During World War II Zarian published a large number of poems and notes, in 1943 finishing his poem "The voice of Homeland". In 1946 his historical tragedy Ara Geghetsik was published. Being a supporter of Stalinism, he was arrested after the death of Stalin; he later changed some of his views.
