Natalie Suleyman (born Nazlı Süleyman on 6 June 1974) is an Australian politician. She has been an Australian Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly since November 2014, representing the electorate of St Albans. She was formerly a councillor and mayor of the City of Brimbank.[1][2]

Controversy

In June 2008, Suleyman unexpectedly lost preselection for the state seat of Kororoit to George Seitz-backed Marlene Kairouz.[3] In what was reported as retaliation, Suleyman took steps to remove Seitz-aligned sports clubs from their current leased grounds.[3] These actions along with Seitz' attack on Suleyman in the Victorian parliament where he described her as the "Robert Mugabe of Brimbank," ultimately led to an investigation by the Victorian Ombudsman into alleged corruption at Brimbank Council.[4][5] Despite adverse findings against Suleyman in the Ombudsman's report, the Local Government Inspectorate took no action against her.[6] Suleyman is the daughter of controversial Australian Labor Party figure, Hakki Suleyman.[7]
