Newcastle Łódź

Newcastle Łódź - was an association football club of the German minority in Łódź, created in 1909, but formally existed since 1911, when it approved its statutes.

History

The club was founded in 1909 on the initiative of players from Union Łódź, who left the team due to inability to performances in the first team. The name "Newcastle" invented the English team coach. In 1909 clubs from Łódź established the "Lodzer Fussball Verband". The prize cup was founded by Englishmen Robert Smith and Alexander Gillchrist. The first edition in 1910 won the German team TV Kraft Łódź. In the next season the Newcastle team joined the league and won the city championship. In 1912, the games gained the title of the Official Championship of Łódź. Newcastle took the 5th place. In 1913, the team finished fourth in the championship, and the following season they took the 5th place. In 1914, the team suspended all operations.[1][2]
