Nicole Monique Bierbach (born 3 May 1993) is a Namibian individual rhythmic gymnast. She represented her nation at several international competitions. She competed at world championships, including at the 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2014 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships.[1]
Career
Junior
Bierbach debuted as a Junior gymnast at the 2006 FIG World Cup Series in Portimao, Portugal alongside fellow Gymnast Mirja Stoldt. Together they won the all-around Silver medal at the 2006 African Gymnastics Championships in Capetown, South Africa.Two years later Bierbach won the Individual apparatus final Silver medal, as well as the Group Bronze medal (together with Michelle Bierbach, Maike Brandt, Aldi Truter, Bianka Trossbach and Nadia Reichstein) at the 2008 African Gymnastics Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
Senior
Bierbach made Namibian sports history in 2009 by becoming the first rhythmic gymnast to qualify for and compete at the 2009 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Mie, Japan. She represented Namibia at numerous other World Championships, World Cup Series and other international competitions and qualified for two Commonwealth Games but could not attend due to lack of funds.
In 2014 Bierbach moved to Germany to train at the German National Team Centre in Fellbach-Schmiden. After suffering from two major injuries during the season, Bierbach decided to retire after the Namibian National Championships in November 2014. To date, she is the only Namibian rhythmic gymnast to have competed at World Championships and holds the most National titles - winning every Namibian National Championship since 2004.
Retirement
After retiring Bierbach attended Broadway Dance Centre s' International Student Visa Programme in New York City to further her modern and contemporary dance education.
She is currently living in Germany and studying to become a physiotherapist. She still dances and competes in a group for the TSV Schmiden, where she also works as a coach.
