October (singer)

October Hamlyn-Wright (May 1983) is a British musician and recording artist. Having embarked on a solo career in recent years, October produced her debut album "Some Of The Things" in early 2014. She has played at Glastonbury Festival four times,[1] including Glastonbury 2013.[2]

Biography

Known purely by her first name, October was born in Surrey, England. She began her musical life writing songs at the age of six. Her recording career began as the founder of Euphoria, a teenage all girl school pop band in which she played the drums and guitar. She left school at the age of 15 when her mother placed her into foster care. This saw the end to her love of music until 2004 when she joined a college in Surrey to study music technology. It was then that she started to write songs again, her first being "Grey", reportedly about her mother. She also began to teach herself acoustic guitar.

October now tours countries such as Australia and Europe. Her music has become closely linked with the surf scene through playing festivals such as Boardmasters, and she has been featured in publications such as Surf Girl.[3] She has played various live BBC sessions around the UK and also writes music for film, including "Free Your Soul" which features in the internationally acclaimed Corduroy Films film, Lost & Found.[4] Free Your Soul was released as her debut single in August 2013, followed by the release of her debut album "Some Of The Things" in March 2014.
