It is located in the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C, which acquired it in 1963 from the art collector Chester Dale.
The subject is Henriette Darricarrière, who was a ballet dancer at Studios de la Victorine, a cinematic studio founded in 1919 now called Studios Riviera.fr:Studios Riviera A fellow painter, she also played the violin and the piano. The transparent pants she is wearing are part of a harem costume.
