The Oman Daily Observer is an English-language Omani daily published from the capital of Oman. Known for its objective reporting, the newspaper does not take sides in its editorials and reportage. Despite it's overwhelming focus on the rights and welfare of the Omani population, of which a considerable percentage is the youth, the paper does not shed its responsibility towards the well-being of the large number of expatriate population..
History and profile
Established on November 15, 1981, Oman Daily Observer, as it is officially called, is a widely-respected English-language broadsheet and one of the old newspapers from the GCC's second largest country. It is also the only English language newspaper to be published on all seven days in Oman.
The 'Observer' focuses on local, national, regional and international news covering current affairs, business and sports. It also pays special attention to Oman’s economic development, highlighting the country’s natural, historical and cultural wealth. In an era where even conventional newspapers resort to sensationalism and activism for readership and social media follower-ship, Oman Observer believes the media's primary role is to report news as it happens, without being judgemental.
The current chairman of the Board of Directors is Dr Abdulmunim bin Mansour bin Said al Hasani, Minister of Information, and the Editor-in-Chief is Abdullah Salim al Shueili.
The editorial policy is to present the fact as it is without making an attempt to interpret to the tastes and needs of readers. Oman Daily Observer is truly's the country's only national paper for its role in highlighting the country's all-round development, at the same time not shying away from its responsibility of bringing out the grievances and concerns of the society, including that of various communities that co-exist peacefully in Oman.
The reporting team includes Conrad Prabhu, Samuel Kutty, Vinod Nair, Lakshmi Kothaneth, Kabeer Yousuf, Zainab al Nasseri and Mai al Abria. Oman Observer is active on social media platforms Facebook and Twitter and Instagram. The online team includes Vinod Nair, Lakshmi Kothaneth and Zakia and Yeru Ebuen. The publication's weekly magazine, Observer Weekend, is edited by Samuel Kutty.
