Demographics

Can be considered as a heavenly village in Tamil Nadu, a low level land between mountains and places where sun cannot penetrate can be seen in this modest village, a view from the murugan temple is the class of this village As of 2001 India census, Pannaikadu had a population of 9396. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Pannaikadu has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 67%. In Pannaikadu, 9% of the population is under 6 years of age. The main occupation here is agriculture of crops like coffee and bananas. During British regime the last governor Sir Archibald Nye praised Pannaikadu as a modern village in the Madras state. Pannaikadu is the place of god Rama. The view of Panniakadu from Murugan Temple is extraordinary. Kaaliamman temple is situated near a stream, whose goddess is believed to be very powerful. The temple is a very beautiful picnic spot too. People from Pannaikadu have migrated to places all around the world either for studies or for living. Banana, coffee, orange, jack and avacodo are mainly cultivated. Pannaikadu is a low level valley surrounded by mountains, which is a rare site in South India. The view from Murugan temple is so catchy but it is a pity very few tourists are attracted to this place. If one goes two km towards Thandikudi, which is a nearby village, one can see a place with minimum sunlight due to thick forest.
