Peter Zaffino (born January 1967) is chief executive officer of Marsh, and chairman of Marsh & McLennan Companies' Risk & Insurance Services segment, which includes Marsh, a risk advisor and insurance broker, and Guy Carpenter and Company, a reinsurance intermediary.[1]

Early life and education

Zaffino holds a BA in economics from Boston College and an MBA in finance from New York University's Leonard N. Stern School of Business. He holds the CPCU and Associate in Reinsurance designations.[2]

Career

Zaffino has held several roles at Marsh & McLennan Companies, a professional services firm that ranked #222 on the 2016 Fortune 500 list.[3][4] Prior to becoming CEO of Marsh, he was president and CEO of Guy Carpenter.[5] Zaffino was appointed to lead Marsh in early 2011, and his responsibilities were expanded to include Risk & Insurance Services in early 2015.[6][7] Since 2008, Zaffino has been a member of the executive committee at Marsh & McLennan Companies, the parent company of Marsh, Guy Carpenter, Mercer, and Oliver Wyman.[8] Under Zaffino's leadership, Marsh built an analytics solution, delivered through a mobile platform using real-time data.[9][10] Zaffino is also overseeing the expansion of Marsh & McLennan Agency,[11] which serves clients in the small- and mid-market brokerage marketplace.[12]

Before joining Guy Carpenter in 2001, he served in several senior executive positions at a GE Capital portfolio company specializing in alternative risk insurance and reinsurance.[13]

Boards

Zaffino is a member of the board of directors of the Michael J. Fox Foundation and the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund, which provides assistance to families of New York City police and fire personnel (including Emergency Medical Services and Port Authority) who have been killed in the line of duty.[14][15] He also serves on the board of overseers for The School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science of St. John’s University.[16]
