Rad Hourani is Canadian designer, photographer and artist known for his neutral [1] genderless[2] creations. Born in 1982 in Jordan from a Jordanian-Canadian father and a Syrian mother, he moved to Montreal, Quebec at the age of 16 to complete high school. After his graduation, he quickly starts working as an art director. At the age of 23, he moves to Paris, where he starts photography and shooting videos. He then creates his first unisex collection and launches his eponymous brand, in October 2007, at the age of 25.
Two years later, he presents his first photo and video exhibition at the Jardins du Palais-Royal in Paris. Since then, Rad Hourani accumulates notoriety exhibiting his photographic work around the world, in particular at the Arnhem Biennale in the Netherlands, at I.T Gallery in Hong Kong, Art Dubai, Arrtco Gallery in Beijing, Tbilissi for the month of photography in Georgia. He also exhibits a film projection at Centre Pompidou in Paris, an interactive installation at the Tate Modern in London, different installations at FIT Museum in New York, MU Art Center in the Netherlands, and the Herning Museum of Contemporary Art in Denmark. His most recent multidisciplinary exhibitions were presented at the Phi Center in Montreal and at the Canadian Cultural Center in Paris.
In January 2013, Rad Hourani became an « invited member» of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in Paris, at the age of 30. Since his first show during the Paris Haute Couture week in January 2013, Rad Hourani has become the first designer to present a Unisex Couture show in the history of fashion, and the first Canadian to be amongst the greatest.[3][4]
His work is an attentive study of the human body that celebrates neutrality as a defining human trait. The Rad Hourani unisex process advocates non-conformity as the essence of individualism. He sees modernity as an odyssey free of limit, gender, age, religion, boundaries and conditioning. In his own vision, he is sketching a new, freer way to live.
