Muhamad Egar or his stage name Ras Muhamad (born October 29, 1982) is an Indonesian reggae singer. His stage name had took while education in Brooklyn, United States and name of Ras was taken vocabulary of Jamaica, meaning Bung.
Early life
Muhamad Egar was born on October 29, 1982, in Jakarta, to Rivai and Wening Estipobo. His mother assigned to United States as Indonesian diplomats in economic and just now Muhamad had graduating in Harapan Ibu Pondok Indah. He continued of school in Russell Sage Junior High School while living in New York City with his mother. In 1999, he attended Forest Hill High School, where previously his mother must return to Indonesia to visit his youngest brother during Muhamad studied. After that, Muhamad continuous his studied in Borough of Manhattan Community College of Faculty Liberal Arts for deepen his artistic talent and graduated in 2005.
Career
2005-2007: Declaration of Truth and Reggae Ambassador
Before graduating in 2005, Muhamad had ever forming an rock band since in SLA and later forming an Rap/Hip-Hop duo Ronin in Kolese. His debut studio album Declaration of Truth was released during live in Brooklyn. Its album had recorded in Indie and launched in New York City. Because for debut album, Muhamad was reach popularity in his birth country. Two years later during return to Indonesia, Muhamad releasing debut studio album Reggae Ambassador on January by Equinox DMD, an company distributing music in iTunes. Indonesian Rolling Stones awarding him as Best Reggae Act in 2008 and earning nominations for Best Reggae Composition in Anugerah Musik Indonesia.
2009-2013: Next Chapter, Negeri Pelangi, Berjaya and book
His second studio album Next Chapter was released on 2009 and its album had many collaboration with national and international musician.
Three years later of unreleased works, Muhamad launching his third studio album Negeri Pelangi and produced first self-titled single with Indonesian reggae Tony Q Rastafara. A year later after third album, Muhamad publishing his first book, same-titled album, about Reggae history, vision and philosophy between Jamaica, Ethiopia and Indonesia. Its book is a collectanea during him journey to Ethiopia in May 2012 and full supported by Indonesian ambassador in Ethiopia Ramli Saud. Its an best seller book in Indonesia and international. In 2012, Muhamad earning an awards in Indonesian Cutting Edge Music Awards (ICEMA).
In 2013, Muhamad return to releasing fourth studio album Berjaya and producing other single, such as “Berjaya” and “Kembali” with Endah N Rhesa. For hits single “Berjaya”, Muhamad receiving first winning Anugerah Musik Indonesia for 2013 Best Reggae/Ska/Dub Production Work.
2014-present: Salam
Muhamad had moving signed to Oneness Record and releasing fifth studio album, entitled Salam on July 14[1] and in album he many collaboration with international reggae musician, such as Sara Lugo, Kabaka Pyramid and Uwe Kaa. Its album had became best seller album in reggae industry music and charted number #1 in reggae-vibes.com, an biggest website reggae in Netherlands. In 2016, Muhamad had embarked a concert in America and tour in Europe for promote the album.[2]
