Rekha Thapa is a Nepali actress, model and film maker. She was a top ten finalist for Miss Nepal in 1999.[3] Two years later she made her movie debut in Chhabiraj Ojha's Hero. She has worked in around 200 Nepali movies and has gained popularity in the Nepali cine world because of her glamorous role. She owns the movie production house Rekha Entertainment. She won the CG Digital Film Awards for Best Actress, and in 2011 she also won the NEFTA Film Awards for Best Actress.[4]

Biography

Rekha Thapa was born in Salakpur in Morang district of Eastern Nepal. After graduating from school, she moved to Kathmandu for her higher studies. As she had strong desire to be an actress, she continued to participate in various modelling glances & glamorous programs. Later she took part in the Miss Nepal Pageant in 1999, and ended up in Top 10.[3]

Thapa worked as a model, and was subsequently approached by the producer Chhabi Raj Ojha with a proposal to work in the movie "Hero" with Rajesh Hamal. During the shooting of Hero, Chhabiraj Ojha proposed to her, and the two were married in traditional style. After ten years, the couple separated due to their misunderstanding.

Thapa and her husband produced more than 8 movies under the name Rekha Films.Rekha Thapa is also known as Dekha Thapa due to her open mind policy Rekha Thapa has worked for more than a hundred movies since the early 2000s.

Thapa is a member of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist).[5]

Thapa's entry in a top Political Party UCPN (Maoist) amidst a public program at party headquarters office of UCPN (Maoist) in Koteshwor, Kathmandu has been criticised by some of her fans.[5] In November 2009, while protesting for Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) on supremacy in the government, Rekha Thapa was seen dancing with the Prachanda who encircled Durbar Square, the government headquarter.[6] In December 2009, Rekha Thapa was seen kissing the shortest man in the world, Khagendra Thapa Magar.[7]

Rekha Thapa was on the cover page of Wave Magazine in June, 2013.[8]

Rekha Thapa ended her relationship with her husband and film producer Chhabi Raj Ojha in 2012. She has been dating Sudarshan Gautam, a disabled non-resident Nepali (NRN) and the actor in Himmatwali. In an interview, Sudarshan Gautam had also admitted on the possibility of marriage.[9] Rekha later revealed that the affair with Sudarsan Gautam was a publicity stunt.[10]
