Robert Weiss, LCSW, CSAT-S is an international sexual addiction expert, author, and educator. In 1995 he founded the Sexual Recovery Institute, an outpatient sexual addiction and intimacy disorders treatment program in Los Angeles. Weiss is the author of Cruise Control: Understanding Sex Addiction in Gay Men and Sex Addiction 101: A Basic Guide to Healing from Sex, Porn, and Love Addiction, and co-author with Dr. Jennifer Schneider of both Untangling the Web: Sex, Porn, and Fantasy Obsession in the Internet Age, Closer Together, Further Apart: The Effect of Technology and the Internet on Parenting, Work, and Relationships and Always Turned On: Sex Addiction in the Digital Age. He is a regular contributor to Psychology Today, PsychCentral.com, The Huffington Post, and CounselorMagazine.com, writing primarily about the intersection of technology with sex and intimacy.
Studies and qualifications
A UCLA clinical social work graduate, Weiss did his post-graduate training in Sexual Addiction and Sexual Offender treatment under the direction of Dr. Patrick Carnes. Weiss is a former board member of The National Council on Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity and has presented for the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute (NPI), The American Association of Sex Educators and Therapists, CAMFT, The National Association of Social Work, The NIH (National Institutes of Health) and The US Military among many, many others. He provides clinical training and program development for numerous multi-addiction treatment centers, including Promises Treatment Centers, Malibu Vista, The Ranch, Right Step, The Recovery Place, Lucida, Journey Healing Centers, and the Sexual Recovery Institute. He has also provided clinical multi-addiction training and behavioral health program development for the US military and numerous other treatment centers throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Weiss is a frequent guest on radio and television talk shows and news shows. Some of his more notable appearances include Larry King Live, To Catch a Predator, The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Today Show, The Glenn Beck Show, and CNN’s Headline News. He has served as a behind-the-scenes media expert for CNN, The Oprah Winfrey Network, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Times of London, and the Today Show, among many others. He has also been featured as an expert in numerous print articles appearing both nationally and internationally in places such as Health.com, the Los Angeles Times, TIME, NY Daily News, Red Eye, Behavioral Health Central, and more. In a field with very few recognized experts, Weiss is an acknowledged industry leader, not only for his own practice, but for his efforts in educating other clinicians about the assessment and treatment of persons with addictive and offending sexual disorders.
