 Went to Ducie Technical School,Denmark Rd, Manchester.
 Played for Manchester Schools West Area.Home games Newton Heath Loco ground.
 Played for full Manchester Boys School team, against several town Teams including London Boys
 Bristol Boys Liverpool Boys.                          
 Trials at Bolton followed,and then signed amateur forms for Manchester United playing in the "B" team with George Best for two seasons.
 Played a couple of outfield games at Man Utd,and Later also played Centre Forward for Rochdale Reserves.
 Was invited to Stockport County for a trial,but signed for Ashton Utd playing in Lancs Combination 
 and Midland League,When at Ashton had trials with Liverpool who were managed by Bill Shankley, also went on a youth tournament to Germany with
 Burnley, played Red Star Belgrde in the Final.Burnley would later pay £25,000 for Jones.
 Signed for Rotherham United in 1965 to start full League career proper.Notable games - played against Swindon Town in semi final of league cup,also       
 played to full house at Old Trafford in FA Cup,and made home debut for Rotherham Utd V West Ham Utd in League Cup.
