A young man, Reymund Hightower (Lautner), has been caring for his ten-year-old brother ever since his mother was sent to prison for drug-related charges six years prior. Their mother is released, supposedly recovered and determined to rebuild their family. Reymund, trying to protect his brother, kidnaps him and heads for the California coast.
