Guerrilla Cambridge (formerly SCE Cambridge Studio), is part of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, was formed in July 1997 when Sony Computer Entertainment Europe acquired the Millennium Interactive development studio from Cyberlife Technology Ltd. The developer is mainly known for making the MediEvil series on the original PlayStation, and the PlayStation Portable. On 10 January 2013 Sony Computer Entertainment restructured Cambridge Studio to work with Guerrilla Games, to make Killzone games for the PlayStation Vita.[1] Sony Computer Entertainment renamed SCE Cambridge Studio to Guerrilla Cambridge and now a sister studio to Guerrilla Games.[2]
History
Guerrilla Cambridge was founded in 1988 as Millennium Interactive by Michael Hayward, Tony Beckwith and Ian Saunter. It saw success with the development of James Pond alongside two more sequels. Other games developed by the studio were Cloud Kingdoms, Horror Zombies from the Crypt, and Super Troll Islands.
On 4 July 1997, the Millennium development studio, along with several of the projects in development, was sold to Sony Computer Entertainment and renamed to SCE Cambridge Studio. 12 games were developed under this new name, which spanned across the first three PlayStation home consoles and the PSP. Among these were three MediEvil games, two for the PlayStation and one for the PSP. They also contributed to multiple other games including Killzone 2, Heavenly Sword and PlayStation Home.
In 2012, Sony Computer Entertainment underwent a restructuring of their European divisions, and renamed SCE Cambridge Studio to Guerrilla Cambridge, making it a sister studio to fellow Sony-owned studio Guerrilla Games. Their first project under their new name was Killzone: Mercenary for the PlayStation Vita. Recently, they developed RIGS: Mechanized Combat League, which was a launch title for the PlayStation VR.
