Mayfield was born June 16, 1981 in Nashville, Tennessee. As a child, he grew up primarily in Los Angeles, but spent a great deal of time in Nashville as well. His mother Laray began working at Propaganda Films in 1986.[1] As a result, Sabyn was exposed to some of the most influential directors of that time period. He cites many of those directors, especially David Fincher,[2] as a major influence on his life and career.

After graduating high school, Sabyn attended the Los Angeles Film School. He graduated in 2002 with a concentration in Directing and minor in Producing.

Early career

Mayfield began his career after graduating from Los Angeles Film School, working as a PA. His first job was with the production company Headquarters. Shortly after, Mayfield transitioned to working as a Grip. Mayfield became a member of the Local 80 Grip Union in 2006. Shortly thereafter he resigned his membership, seeking other opportunities in the film industry.

He also directed a comedic short, Regulate, an adaptation of the Warren G and Nate Dogg song of the same name. The short was featured on Tosh.0. Mayfield also directed the pilot for a reality series entitled Real MC's and a short film, Tears, starring Michael Madsen, based on Madsen's poem in the book Burning in Paradise.[11]
