Shamal Sabri (Kurdish: شه‌مال سه‌بری), (born 9 November 1985), is an independent Kurdish award winning film producer and Duhok International Film Festival Artistic Director, graduated from Duhok University with BA in English Literature.. He was born in the city of Duhok (Kurdish: دهوك) in Iraqi Kurdistan. Apart from being one of the co-founders of Duhok IFF[1] in 2009, he has worked in many other fields of video productions, produced many commercials and music videos in NV Production and Vin TV. Throughout his film carrier, he has contributed in many award winning films as an assistant director, production manager, assistant producer and line producer. His latest contributions were in many films such as "Before Snowfall" by Hisham Zaman, "The Swallow" by Mano Khalil, "Memories on Stone" by Shawkat Amin Korki and Michael by Kurdo Duski. He has proven himself over and over as an important player in Kurdistan's developing film industry and eventually earned the position of Artistic Director of Duhok IFF in 2016. Shamal is the head of submission committee for films representing Iraq in the Asia Pacific Screen Awards.

Career

Video Production

Shamal have worked in many areas of video productions. He has produced many commercial and music videos in his early beginning of video production carrier and continued in television fields as a Production Manager and Relation Manager in Vîn TV. In 2010, he started working in films as an assistant director in many projects; "Before Snowfall" by Hisham Zaman and The Swallow by Mano Khalil. In addition, he worked in Production field as a Production Manager , Assistant Producer and Line Producer in films; Memories on Stone by "Shawkat Amin Korki[2]" and Michael by "Kurdo Duski". His first film as an Independent Producer is his feature documentary "Havibon[3]"

Events

Shamal Sabri is one of the cofounders of one of the most important cultural events held in Duhok, Duhok International Film Festival coordinator [4] and took part in coordinating many of international events, and local film events held in the Kurdish region. In addition, he represented the Duhok International Film Festival in many International events such as Gothenburg Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival, and Venice Film Festival. He was the media coordinator of the Kurdish Delegation at Nashville Film Festival 2013 in the United States and covered the Celebration of Kurdish Cinema [5] Event which was organized by Nashville Film Festival with the Academy Partnership for Kurdish Film Celebration [6]
