Skipton Building Society Camerata

The Skipton Building Society Camerata is a professional chamber orchestra based in Skipton, North Yorkshire. It was founded in 2004 by Ben Crick, who conducts the orchestra and holds the position of Artistic Director.

History

The Skipton Building Society Camerata was founded in 2004 by Ben Crick, to 'provide a professional Yorkshire-based chamber orchestra offering work to musicians leaving the academies and conservatoires.'[1][2]

Education

Recent education projects have included The Night Before Christmas, an oratorio by composer Tom Lydon, the premiere performance of which was given by 80 pupils from primary schools local to Skipton and the Skipton Girls' High School Chamber Choir.

Opera

The Camerata has mounted several operas, including Madam Butterfly for the Grassington Festival in 2007. It has produced several productions in unusual venues, including Mozart's Cosi fan tutte in Skipton's Cattle Auction Mart and the same composer's Bastien and Bastienne in The Narrow Boat pub in Skipton town centre.
