Springdale Farms is a family owned farmers' market, located on Springdale Road (County Route 673) in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, United States. It is heavily developed Cherry Hill's only working farm.[1][2]

History

There were 82 working farms in Cherry Hill (then known as Delaware Township) in 1931. The road that Springdale Farms is located on, was a dirt road. Before Springdale Farms, there were several farms in the area, including chicken farms (one located on the land where Cherry Hill High School East is today). Springdale Farms began in 1949, when Alan Ebert purchased the land. Alan's widow, Mary, along with her children, operate the farm. In late 1998, Springdale Road was widened, from two lanes to four lanes, including a center left-turn lane.[3] This has affected the farm by not only removing some of the farm's property, but also affecting the farm's business when the road had a detour that motorists used during the widening project. In 1999, the farm expanded to add three greenhouses, totaling 9,600 square feet, where produce, baked goods, crafts and other farm products are sold.[4] In 2006, a fence was erected in response to the significant amount of deer in the wooded area surrounding the farm.[5]

The farm today

Springdale Farms lures in hundreds of customers on a weekly basis, and is a popular destination for patrons to purchase homemade pies, fresh produce, cider, ice cream, doughnuts, pumpkins, gardening supplies, soil, fertilizer, mulch, and flowers. During the fall season, the farm holds special events, including hayrides, a corn maze, and harvests. A "pick-your-own" strawberries promotion is most popular among patrons at the farm.[6] The farm also hosts children's birthday parties.[7]
