Sri Madhukarnath

Sri M is a living Yogi and disciple of Sri Maheshwarnath Babaji who in turn was the disciple of Mahavatar Babaji.Sri M is also known as Sri Madhukarnath ji. Sri M lives at Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh, India.[1] He should not be confused with M or Mahendranath Gupta, a disciple of Ramakrishna.

Childhood

Sri M was born as Mumtaz Ali Khan on 6 November 1948. In a devout Muslim family in Trivandrum, Kerala. Sri M's maternal grandmother had Sufi connections and told him many Sufi stories in his childhood. Between age of five and nine, he was exposed to Hinduism and Christianity. Even at that age, he noticed how prejudiced people belonging to one religion were about other religions. Sri M had a strange liking and urge to go to Himalayas from childhood. At the age of nine, his Guru Sri Maheshwarnath Babaji first met him. The Guru asked Sri M if he remembers anything. Sri M could not recall anything. Guru told him that he will understand it later. After many years, Sri M met the same Guru Sri Maheshwarnath Babaji in Himalayas and remembered their first meeting and the karmic link between the two.

Quest for self realisation

According to his autobiography,[2] Sri M left his home at the age of nineteen to find his master in Himalayas. After getting exhausted by the endless search, he finally met Sri Maheshwarnath Babaji at Vyasa Cave, beyond Badrinath. He lived with his master for three and a half years and learnt many things. According to the book, he got initiated into the Nath tradition and got awakening of his Kundalini fire.[3] He, along with his master took arduous journey to Tholingmutt in Tibet.[4] His desire to meet the Grand Master – Sri Guru (Mahavatar Babaji) was also fulfilled at NeelaKanth hill with the grace of his master.

The author claims that Mahavatar Babaji, referred as Sri Guru in this book, was his master in a previous life. Sri M's guru Maheshwarnath Babaji is said to have the power to materialize and dematerialize, and assume any form on earth and beyond.[5]

Later years

After staying with master in the Himalayas, Babaji asked Sri M to go back and prepare for his life mission. Sri M came back from Himalayans and met many spiritual souls such as Neem Karoli Baba and learnt from Lakshman Joo and J. Krishnamurti. He also spent considerable amount of time in Ramakrishna Mission and Krishnamurti Foundation. He started his teaching phase some years after his Master died.

Sri M is married and spends his time in teaching and heading Satsang Foundation.He has a school in Andhra Pradesh called The Peepal Grove School. It was opened in 2006 and was inaugurated by A.P.J Abdul Kalam and is going well.It is a boarding school with over 250 people including staff. He also writes in Speaking Tree, a spiritual forum by Times of India.[6]

A documentary film called "The Modern Mystic: Sri M of Madnapalle"[7] was made by director Raja Choudhury in 2011.

Sri M started a padayatra called "Walk of Hope" from Kanyakumari to Kashmir covering 7500 km on 12 January 2015, marking the birth anniversary of a great prophet of interfaith harmony, Swami Vivekananda. The journey spans 15–18 months through 11 Indian states, bringing together citizens from all walks of life. Traversing the varied landscape of India, it seeks a significantly restored nation—fit enough to be bequeathed to our future generations. The padayatra ended on 29 April 2016.
