Stephen Ibaraki
Stephen K. Ibaraki is a researcher in information processing, who has been a college teacher, head of research, advanced professional programmer,[1] an industry analyst,[2] writer[3] [4] [5] [6] [7][8] [9][10] and consultant[11] in the IT industry. In 2015 two of Stephen’s articles, one on award multi award winning machine learning expert Professor Pedro Domingos, the second an interview with AMD's Roy Taylor ranked in IT World Canada’s annual Top 5.[12][13][14] Stephen speaks at conferences and events around the world most recently, in May 2016, keynoting at the International Conference for Software Engineering.[15] Also in 2016 Stephen spoke at three events at the World Computer Congress: 2016 Industry Prospects Conference, International Young IT Professional Conference, and the Education Forum IP3 session.[16] Stephen recently moderated the ITU’s series of talks on Artificial Intelligence at the ITU World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly in Hammamet, Tunisia.[17] He also moderated at ITU Telecom World and the ITU Kaleidoscope academic conference in Bangkok, Thailand.[18] Invited by the United Nations (UN), Stephen spoke at the UN/ITU General Assembly High-Level Meeting WSIS+10 Review in July, October and December 2015.[19][20] Stephen presented on “The evolving dependence on ICT’s in the Second Machine Age” at the WSIS event from 25 to 29 May 2015.[21] Stephen chaired and keynoted the opening session of the United Nations Global e-Government Forum International Scientific Practical Conference in October 2014 resulting in an invitation to the closed (private) global ministerial round table discussion with his speaking notes being included in the report going to the UN General Assembly.[22] In June 2013 Stephen spoke at the Astana Economic Forum (AEF) ASTEX 2013, is the largest in Eurasia.[23]
Stephen is an advisor to the Financial Services Roundtable (FSR) FinTech Ideas Festival (FIF) founding and chairing the FSR advisory council.[24] The FSR consists of 100 of the top 150 CEOs by market capitalization in the financial services sector.[25] Earlier this year he was appointed as advisor to Digital Africa and as founder and chair of their advisory board.[26] Stephen is an ambassador for the $5 million IBM AI X-Prize competition.[27] He is an invited advisor to TEDxLA the largest TEDx ever produced, scheduled for the Dolby Theatre in LA USA November 28 to Dec 3, 2016. Stephen is the past president of the Canadian Information Processing Society,[28] vice-chair of the international advisory board International Federation for Information Processing World CIO Forum, and International Federation for Information Processing IP3 vice-chair.[29] In 2010 Stephen founded and currently chairs the Global Industry Council addressing the United Nations General Assembly in that role,.[30] In 2016 the ITU recognized IFIP with a WSIS Champion Award for its initiative in establishing the Global Industry Council [31] Stephen is also the founding chairman GITCA.[32] [33] [34] Stephen serves as co-chair of the Practitioner Board[35][36] of the ACM [37][38] having previously chaired the Board's Professional Development Committee [39][40]
At the direct nomination of the IFIP president, Stephen was recently awarded the prestigious IFIP Silver Core Award.[41] He is a recipient of the Advanced Technology Award,[42] IT Hero Award,[1] IT Leadership Awards for Lifetime Achievement,[2] Best Networking Professional Career Achievement Award,[4] Gary Hadford Professional Achievement Award,[5] CIPS Hall of Fame,[6][7] Microsoft Most Valuable Professional Awards and top 5 selection[8][9] ,[43] 2006 inducted as a founding Fellow of the Canadian Information Processing Society,[44] inducted as first fellow GITCA ,[45] and inducted as a distinguished fellow NPA.[46]
