Sydney New Year's Eve 2006–07 was the 12th Sydney New Year's Eve held at Sydney Harbour on the evening of 31 December 2006 and in the early hours of 1 January 2007. It was the first year that Network Ten would broadcast the event, having won a three-year deal from the Nine Network and was co-hosted by Gretel Killeen and Daniel MacPherson.[1] The theme was previously revealed to be "A Diamond Night in Emerald City" to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, with fireworks once again produced by Foti International Fireworks. This was Wayne Harrison's second consecutive year as creative director.

Controversy
In its inaugural broadcast of the show, broadcaster Network Ten received a large number of complaints over its 2006 Sydney New Year's Eve coverage. Most of the criticism was left for Matthew Newton, son of Channel Nine star Bert Newton, who was simulating oral sex with John Foreman on the piano with his penis on the The Big Night In with John Foreman.[2] There were calls for the network to lose the rights to the broadcast and give them back to the Nine Network, who had them from 1995–96 to 2005–06.[3] It was dubbed "the worst NYE ever".[4]
