Tavares Bowens played for Division II school Saginaw Valley State University, and is a former Arena Football Coach with the Orlando Predators. Bowens help lead the predators to a conference championship and an appeared in Arena Bowl XX vs the Chicago Rush. In 2007, Bowens joined the Lakeland Thunderbolts of the American Indoor Football Association under Head Coach Teddy Keaton as a Special Teams Coach and helped the Thunderbolts defeat the Reading Express in AIFA BOWL in route to an American Indoor Football Championship. In 2008,after the current Coach left to Huntington, Bowens was named the Head Coach/defensive Coordinator of the Florence Phantoms. Bowens got the Phantoms off to a 1-3 start, until Owner Barbra Spigner brought in Aso Pogi as Player/Coach who then led the Phantoms to a 14-2 record and AIFA championship in dominating fashion over the Wyoming Cavalry 48-12. Bowens was named the American Indoor Football Association's Coach of the Year but the real credit from owner and the city went to Pogi and the new staff. The 2008 Florence Phantoms championship win was the state of South Carolinas first ever professional Football Championship. Following the 2008 season, Bowens worked for Direct TV and sold Insurance for Assurant.
