"The Alliance" is the eighth episode of the eighth season of the American sitcom Modern Family. It aired on November 30, 2016 on American Broadcasting Company (ABC). The episode is directed by James Bagdonas and written by Andy Gordon.

Plot

Gloria (Sofia Vergara), Phil (Ty Burrell) and Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) reveal that being married to a Pritchett is not always easy which is the reason why they formed an alliance against their spouses. Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), Claire (Julie Bowen) and Jay have all tyrannical behaviors, according to them. As they have an another encounter, Gloria helps Cameron to get rid of two Russian guests who never left during a month and Cameron and Phil decide to get rid of Stella’s collar.

This backfires when Phil keeps the collar on him, and Manny (Rico Rodriguez discovers that orange juice Gloria was supposed to buy (and which also the code for the alliance) is missing from the fridge. Mitchell becomes very suspicious and the Pritchett Clan decides to be the only one who choose family vacation this year.

Jay (Ed O'Neill) enlists Luke’s (Nolan Gould) help. He wants to reinstate a petition which, if approved, could allow smokers to use cigars. Luke hits it off very well with a widow and Jay seizes the opportunity. Finally, Haley (Sarah Hyland) decides to know better Rainer’s daughter April but she ends up parenting her instead, which makes her very uncomfortable.

Jay, Claire and Mitch decide to go to Italy. Cameron, Phil and Gloria pretend to be sad, while they laugh in the cameras scenes, because they wanted to go to Italy and even influence their husbands and wife.
