Founder of Fenn
Roger Fenn founded the school in 1929 with the hopes of providing a proper all boys education. He emphasized all of the students being an active part of a larger school community, and educating "the whole boy". The whole boy is in reference to not just being sure that the students are properly educated academically, but also while at Fenn, develop students from young boys to successful young men in and out of the classroom. He came up with the ideas of daily all school meetings, public speaking contests among the students of all ages, and the big brother program, where every new 4th grader is assigned an 8th or 9th grade student to welcome them into the community. Roger also liked to integrate the historically rich concord into the Fenn education. The students would regularly study the works of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and visit the Minuteman National Park and the Concord Museum.[8]
