The Mosslands School

The Mosslands School is a secondary school located in Wallasey Village, Wirral, England. It currently has about 1,200 pupils and over one hundred staff.

The school first came about when Wallasey Education Authority commissioned a purpose built establishment to be sited on Mosslands Drive, Wallasey Village. The school was opened on 27 October 1956 by glass mogul Sir Harry Pilkington and the modern era began with the new school being named the Secondary Technical School for Boys. At the time the school had around 500 pupils with 20 staff.

In recent years the site has moved from two sites to one larger site. The former lower school annexe for years 7 and 8 was demolished, and the upper school site (years 9, 10 and 11) expanded to accommodate pupils from all years.

The new site contains science laboratories, art studios, music suites, computer rooms and a library. Extensions provided rooms for humanities and improvements to Languages, Maths and English. In 2004, The Mosslands School became a specialist Technology College.

• Derek Mountfield (b 1962), retired footballer who played predominantly for Aston Villa and Everton F.C.
• Simon Rimmer (b 1963), celebrity television chef who co-presented BBC2's Something for the Weekend.
• Matthew Smith (b 1966), creator of the 8-bit platform games Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy.
• Paul Hollywood^[1] (b 1966), English baker and celebrity television chef who is a judge on BBC2's The Great British Bake Off.
• Shaun Garnett (b 1969), retired footballer for Tranmere Rovers F.C. and Oldham Athletic A.F.C. Now coaches at Tranmere Rovers.
• Jason Koumas (b 1979), Welsh international footballer who played for Wigan Athletic.
• Jay Spearing (b 1988), footballer who currently plays for [Wallasey Wanderers]
