TRTÉ (Teen RTÉ) is a programming block which airs on RTÉ Two targeting children between 7 and 16 years of age.[1] Initially operating alongside a sister strand called RTÉjr (which has since become the channel RTÉjr), it targets children of less than 6 years of age. The strand also appears on radio on RTÉ Junior.

TRTÉ broadcasts every afternoon. Its flagship programming includes Elev8 presented by Ivan Minnock, Seán Regan and Moldovan-born Diana Bunici until 2015 where it was replaced with Swipe TV.[2] News2day broadcasts daily featuring news updates. Stephen Byrne and Bláthnaid Treacy host Two Tube every weekday night from 17.00 to 18.30.

Scheduling

TRTÉ like most children's strands provides a striped schedule Monday to Friday. This means that the same show is shown at the same time every weekday. The strand starts off at 14:10 Monday to Friday with 3 imported programmes until 16:30 when Swipe TV begins. Swipe TV is preceded each day by News2day at 16:25. Two Tube begins broadcasting at 18:00. Both Swipe TV and News2day (along with one of the international programmes) are repeated the following day from 06:45 to 07:45.

This schedule changes at the weekend where TRTÉ hours are moved to 08:50 until 11:30. (Times vary due to live sport, which also airs on RTÉ Two).

The schedule also changes during school holidays were RTÉjr is largely replaced by TRTÉ.

Programming

TRTÉ has generally aired most teen/children's shows from original channel's such as Cartoon Network, Disney Channel and Nickelodeon. Including Aquateam, iCarly, Aaron Stone, Sabrina, The Teenage Witch, Dani's House, Summerhill and Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated.

Films

TRTÉ, like RTÉjr, shows many family films during the holidays (summer, half-term, etc.). TRTÉ transmits only films that are rated G, PG & 12A.

Reality TV

Mission Beach Mission Beach USA follows eight Irish 16-year-old guys and girls as they train for three weeks at the Fort Lauderdale Junior Lifeguard Programme, Florida, USA. The show originally aired on BBC Switch in 2009.

Football's Next Star sees 10 Irish boys embark on a once in a lifetime opportunity to fulfill a boyhood dream, a unique chance to win a place at the renowned Celtic Youth Academy.

Pump Up My Dance Pump Up My Dance is a new high-energy series where some of the finest Irish and International dance masters test talented young dancers with the toughest routines they have ever encountered. Each show features a different dance style where 20 hopefuls dance their hearts out. Just like in a professional audition, the Dance Master narrows down the 20 dancers to his/her top five who perform in Smock Alley Theatre just one week later.

Ultimate Street ChallengeOver 6 episodes 10 sixteen-year-olds battle it out through physical challenge on the streets of Dublin to find the Ultimate Street Challenge Champion.

Big Wave Bootcamp Big Wave Bootcamp takes 8 surf-mad Irish teens and unleashes them on the world's most extreme surf school in the sunny shores of Hawaii! There they'll spend three weeks being tutored by a surfing legend Ken Bradshaw so they can take on the meanest barrels the Aloha state has to throw at them

Super Crew TRTÉ goes on the hunt for the hottest teenage hip hop dancers in Super Crew with presenter Aidan Power and judges; Nike dancer/choreographer Kymberlee Jay, Irish producer/choreographer Stuart O'Connor and dancer/choreographer Jane Shortall.

Elev8 Featured comedy sketches and celebrity news. Elev8 shows mad randomness in every episode with competitions, fashion advice and film and game reviews. The show aired 2011 - 2014 to a strong audience. The show was presented by presented by Ivan Minnock, Seán Regan and Moldovan-born Diana Bunici.

Game/Quiz shows

The Mountain is TRTÉ's science adventure game show series which sees two teams complete science-based challenges around an adventure style course with the winning team reaching The Mountain summit. The Mountain was filmed at Carlingford Adventure Centre, Co Louth.

Sing! is a music game show where contestants try to guess a song according to their lyrics. Featuring Brian Ormond, Emma O'Driscoll and Paul Walsh.

Watch Your Language, with presenter Shonagh Lyons, is the hit wordplay game show where speed, teamwork and spelling are key.

News and sport

Drama/Comedy

Roy Roy thinks he's just like any normal boy. Born into a real world, he's an every-day kid living in an every-day house in an every-day street in a suburb of Dublin. Inside Roy feels just like an ordinary boy but the trouble is, he's not . . . he's a cartoon. is the plot line listed on the show's official website. Unlike other TRTÉ original series, it also airs in the UK on CBBC.

Ireland Dig It! is a new, exciting archaeology adventure game show where teams of young people try join the brilliant, but slightly batty, Professor Gertrude McNulty to hunt down Uafás, an evil time bandit, who is destroying ancient Irish history! They voyage back through the centuries cracking codes, trading with Vikings, building portal tombs, sailing ships, playing Bronze Age instruments in their pursuit of the demon Uafás. Will they capture him before it's too late?

TRTÉ on DTT

RTÉjr was launched as a separate channel to accommodate children's TV output as part of the Saorview DTT package.[3][4] There was no confirmation from RTÉ whether TRTÉ would broadcast as a separate channel. But the DTT channel may launch when the Ireland Analogue Switch Off (ASO) occurs on 24 October 2012.
