Tiffany Sarac Haddish[1] (born December 3, 1979)[1] is an American comedian, actress, and dancer.[2]
Early life
Haddish is the oldest of five children. She is of Ethiopian Jewish,[3] Eritrean and African American descent. She cared for her younger siblings while her mother worked overnight at the post office. In 1988 her mother was in a car accident and went through the windshield of her car; this caused or triggered her schizophrenia.[4] When Haddish was 13 her family was split up and the children put into foster care before her grandmother was awarded custody. Still damaged, Haddish constantly was in trouble at school. Finally her social worker gave her an ultimatum: go to psychiatric therapy or Laugh Factory Comedy Camp. The camp was the outlet for her pain and her passion for comedy was sparked.[5]
Career
Haddish has made guest appearances on such shows as, Chelsea Lately, That's So Raven, My Name Is Earl, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Bill Bellamy's Who's Got Jokes?, The Underground, Nick Cannon's Short Circuitz, Just Jordan, In the Motherhood, Def Comedy Jam, Reality Bites Back and New Girl. She has also starred in movies such as Meet the Spartans and Janky Promoters. In 2013 she had a recurring role on Real Husbands of Hollywood.
In 2014, Haddish was cast in the Oprah Winfrey Network series If Loving You Is Wrong.[6] She left the soap after first season for regular role on the NBC sitcom The Carmichael Show. In 2015, she co-starred opposite Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key in the comedy film Keanu.[7] Haddish later went to star alongside Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith and Regina Hall in the comedy film Girl Trip for Universal Pictures.[8]
