Tim Fain is an American violinist, perhaps best known for his performances in the movie Black Swan and his work with American composer Philip Glass.
Early life and education
A native of Santa Monica, California, violinist Tim Fain attended the Royal Conservatory of Music in London at the age of 11 and Crossrads School for the Arts and Sciences in Santa Monica. He is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studied with Victor Danchenko, [1] and The Juilliard School, where he worked with Robert Mann.[1]
Career
After winning the Avery Fisher Career Grant,[2] Fain performed on-screen and in the soundtrack of the movie Black Swan [3] as well as ghost-playing for Richard Gere in the Fox Searchlight movie Bee Season. In November 2006, Fain played a recital with accompanist Richard Bishop at the Kosciuszko Foundation in New York City.[4] In December 2007, Fain performed with conductor Marin Alsop and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in Aaron Jay Kernis's violin concerto Lament and Prayer.[5]
With pianist Bruce Brubaker, Fain performed Philip Glass's Pendulum, a one-movement piece for violin and piano, at the composer's 75th birthday party concert in New York at (Le) Poisson Rouge.[6]
In November 2013, Fain and pianist Pei-Yao Wang performed selections from Richard Danielpour's River of Light and Philip Glass's Einstein on the Beach at a Philadelphia Chamber Music Society recital.[7]
Fain tours worldwide with composer/pianist Philip Glass in duo recital performances.[8][9]
Fain performed and co-arranged [10] the onscreen music in 12 Years A Slave,[11] and is featured on the soundtrack album: "Music from and Inspired by 12 Years a Slave" [12]
