Todmorden High School is a comprehensive school in the town of Todmorden, Calderdale LEA, West Yorkshire, England. The school has a specialist Arts College status.
Admissions
Todmorden High School and Visual Arts College is located in the West Yorkshire town of Todmorden. It is a six-form entry, co-educational comprehensive school for 11- to 18-year-olds. Typically pupils at Todmorden High School transfer to the school from one of its six feeder schools at the age of 11 or 12.
The school has approximately 820 pupils, 120 of whom are in the sixth form, and has 55 teaching staff members and 80 non-teaching staff members.
Upon entry, pupils are placed into mixed ability tutor groups and typically remain in those groups for five years. Form tutors usually stay with their form until graduation. Each year-group has a head of year. There is a separate head of Sixth Form.
Curriculum
The school teaches the full range of National Curriculum subjects at Key Stage 3 and a range of options at Key Stage 4, including vocational courses. For pupils 16 and over, the school provides 'A' level and vocational courses and an intermediate program. The school is divided into nine faculties, each responsible for a major area of the curriculum. A special needs support system within each faculty helps pupils with learning difficulties.
The school was awarded Investors in People in 1999. In September 2003 T.H.S. became a Specialist College for the visual arts. The school is part of the Sports Coordinator Scheme and has gained international school Intermediate status. The school holds the Healthy Schools Award, and is involved with Incredible Edible.
