Traps 'n' Treasures is an action role-playing platform video game developed by Roman Werner.[1] It was released by Starbyte Software in July 1993 for the Amiga.

Plot

The hero's name is Jeremy Flynn. He is a pirate around 1641, who while he has some problems with his compass, he and his crew get near an island (devil's island), where seems to be Redbeard (a bad guy) with his crew. In a night attack, Redbeard's men steal ship's resources and kidnap Jeremy's crew. It seems that there was a traitor between Jeremy's crew, that broke the compass in the first place. Only Jeremy manages to escape using his cabin double wall. The next day he begins his quest to free all of his crew, take his money back and perhaps more.

Gameplay

Traps 'n' Treasures, has many common things to its gameplay, like other Platform-Action RPG games, such as Wonderboy in Monsterland, but Jeremy cannot fire while jumping. Instead, pressing fire button while on air, makes Jeremy use the heels of his shoes, in order to be able to brake some rocks, but not enemies. He also has a parachute with him, which can be deployed by moving the joystick down and up fast and which protects him when jumping from big heights.

Jeremy has lives and a life meter which consists of a series of green pseudo-3d rectangles; he starts the game with three lives and five green rectangles. Whenever he sustains damage those rectangles turn black. When all the rectangles turn black, hero loses a life and begins from a point relatively close to the last that he was. If all lives are lost, then the game ends. Players score points whenever hero defeats enemies and collects certain treasures or fruits (which give a life rectangle, if enough of them are collected).

Players earn gold throughout the game in order to purchase weapons, food (which increases health), health rectangles and even bet with dices, in shops. Gold is obtained from enemies, while some are hidden in odd places. There is a map with four places (levels) that the player must complete. Beginning from Threadneedle Lagoon, the others are; Skull-Grotto, Temple and Fortress. Completing every place, the game provides an eight-digit code of the new place, which can be used in the beginning screens of the game, in order to start directly from that place.
